Since 1996, we’ve been brewing up special releases at our 10-barrel pilot brewery at the Moda Center at the Rose Quarter (aka the Rose Garden) in Portland. It’s a place where our brewers can experiment with new recipes, and tweak and perfect beers. Many have ended up as rotating taps at the Widmer Brothers Brewery and Pub, and some have even gone on to full national releases.
Today we’re excited to announce the arrival of Krystal Pear, a beer brewed, fermented, and bottled entirely on-site at the pilot brewery. It’s our first bottled and commercially available endeavor from the Rose Quarter brewery and we’re excited to share this one with beer drinkers around Portland.
Krystal Pear is a filtered American-style wheat beer brewed with Oregon pears as the official beer of this year’s Bon Appétit presents Feast Portland: A Celebration of Oregon Bounty, a four-day festival celebrating Oregon’s culinary culture with top Oregon chefs, along with nationally recognized chefs and food influencers. The festival runs from September 19 to September 22 and we hope to see you there.
Krystal Pear is inspired by the Oregon bounty and the spirit of the Feast Portland event, and brewed with local pears from USA Pears. As a founding beer sponsor of the event, this is the second year that we have brewed the event’s official beer. We hope this is just the first of many special Portland releases from our pilot brewery. Be on the lookout for Krystal Pear in 22oz bottles, and potential future 10-barrel projects, around Portland at bottleshops, grocery stores, and on draught at local restaurants and beer bars.
