The Widmer Brothers Pub

NOTE: The Widmer Brothers Pub will be closed Thursday 2/15/18 for a private event. We will be back open tomorrow, Friday 2/16/18

The Widmer Brothers Pub has been serving guests in North Portland since 1996. With the main brewery across the street and our 10-barrel innovation system next door, the pub is where we showcase our love for crafting delicious beer. Over half of our 24 taps feature small batch brews from the adjacent innovation brewery, so there’s always something new to try. Perch at the bar with a flight or grab a growler or Crowler of your favorite beer to go.

Tap List

Alt Bier

5.0% ABV | 40.0 IBU

The first beer ever brewed by Widmer Brothers. Alt beer is a traditional German ale. Alt is an assertively bitter beer with a clean, dry roasted finish and a deep amber hue. The potent hop bitterness is balanced by the flavor of the Munich and Caramel specialty malts.

Rosé Apple Cider

4.9% ABV | 30.0 IBU

Meet the beer that started it all. Our naturally cloudy flagship brew starts with the highest quality wheat. It's bold, clean flavor and pronounced citrus and floral aromas are what define American-style Hefeweizen. So pour yourself a cool, cloudy glass, finish with a lemon and enjoy the original.

Brotha from Anotha Motha

5.8% ABV | 16.0 IBU

Brotha from Anotha Motha is an old world interpretation of our flagship Hefeweizen. The pilsner and wheat malt backbone provides a clean, subtle maltiness which is rounded out by the addition of munich malt. Unique flavors of clove and banana from the Bavarian Hefeweizen yeast provide unparalleled complexity for such a simple base. The yeast left in suspension provides a luxurious mouthfeel which lends body to an otherwise dry beer.

7.8% ABV | 65.0 IBU

IPA - New England

The Learning Curve series is collaboration between Widmer Brothers Brewing and Brewbound’s Start Up Challenge winners. The fifth in the series is a hazy IPA made in collaboration with Armada Brewing from East Haven, Connecticut. Learning Curve alludes to the path we as brewers take as we make our way through the brewing cosmos. No stranger to hazy NE IPA’s, Armada sought to explore making an IPA on the Westcoast with a handful of experimental and Southern hemisphere hops. We hope you enjoy the result. Prost! To the Learning Curve.

Massive Disruption

10.0% ABV | 65.0 IBU

Stout - Russian Imperial

This beer is a massive disruption to the senses! It’s an extremely rich and complex beer with tremendous body and mouthfeel. Spicy hop aromas are soft background notes to the dominant Chocolate and Coffee aromas. The generous use of roasted barley and other specialty malts, such as Midnight Wheat result in a deep opaque black beer and thick brown beer foam. Well hidden in this complex beer is nice layer of alcohol.

Rada Strata 2.0

7.2% ABV | 85.0 IBU

IPA - American

Brewed with huge amounts of danky Strata hops, this is truly a hop-lover's perfect pint!

Mildly Interesting

4.0% ABV | 20.0 IBU

English Mild Ale

Similar to most lager styles, there is nothing to hide behind when brewing a Dark Mild. Using only 3 types of grain and 1 type of hop, this seemingly simple beer has plenty of nuance and subtlety. Notes of honey, baker's chocolate and a slight nuttiness make this low gravity beer all the more sessionable.

7.0% ABV | 42.0 IBU

Winter Ale

Winternacht is a strong Alt style beer first brewed in 1997 for the winter season. The alcohol, body, and bitterness are high - true to the style of Northwest Winter beers. The descriptor “Winter Warmer” is very aptly used for this product. Ample bitterness balances the considerable malty sweetness. The mouthfeel and dry roasted finish of this product are exceptionally smooth.

Understated New Wave

5.2% ABV | 36.0 IBU

IPA - Session / India Session Ale

Understated New Wave is a delicious, approachable Mosaic ale that is quaffable, but doesn’t compromise on flavor. There is just enough malt to support the fresh Mosaic hop flavors. Nuances of stone and tropical fruit can be found in the clean finish, making you want to take another sip.

White Out!

6.4% ABV | 12.0 IBU

Stout - Milk / Sweet

Milk Stout belongs in the Sweet Stout category, and is a beer originally developed via the Oregon Brew Crew’s Collaborator program in May 1998. It is relatively low in bitterness and has substantial amounts of residual sugar. The result is a viscous, velvety beer with a full, creamy mouth feel. The name Milk Stout comes from the lactose (milk sugar) used to augment the residual sugar level in this beer. (Try it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream!) This version is a take on the WBB/OBC Collaborator classic without dark malts. Prost!

Bϋrli Bread Bomb

4.9% ABV | 30.0 IBU

Hefeweizen is an unfiltered American style Hefeweizen (wheat and yeast ale) that is purposefully very cloudy in appearance due to live yeast in suspension. Wheat and biscuit aromas and flavors provide the backbone to the golden beer, and they are augmented by yeast and hop derived citrus and faintly spicy attributes. This first Hefe Liquid Bread Series inspired by David Bradley looks to amplify the breadiness of Hefe and celebrate the Swiss origin of the Widmer Bros (and David Bradley).

Czech This Oil

5.2% ABV | 35.0 IBU

Pilsner - Czech

This beautiful Czech Style Pils was brewed with traditional ingredients, including Floor Malted Pilsner and a liberal amount of Czech Saaz hops. To add to the historical significance of this style, we decided to do a single decoction mash for this beer. This involves taking a portion of the mash and boiling it, releasing wonderful caramel malt flavors through what is known as a maillard reaction. This beer is so approachable and incredibly satisfying with a firm bitterness and a chewy maltiness playing off of each other. A little brewer’s secret: this is the style a lot of brewers reach for. Sometimes referred to (at least by us) as truly a “brewer’s beer”. Enjoy!

Small Hands Make Big Walls

4.8% ABV | 19.0 IBU

Lager - Dark

Unlike its European counterpart, Mexican Vienna Lagers are slightly darker and less malty due to the use of adjuncts typically in the form of corn. Aromas of caramel and grahm cracker from the malts are dominate, followed by an intermingle of slight floral notes from the Tetnanger noble hops. One might even say that it’s off the wall…

Shaddock's First Mate

6.2% ABV | 52.0 IBU

IPA - American

Grapefruit, lemon, orange, lime, tangerine, and other citrus based terms are often used to describe the flavors and aromas of hoppy beers like IPAs. Beyond the terminology, certain kinds of orange peels are common and critical ingredients in particular styles of beers, while other styles benefit from a slice of lemon hanging off the edge of the pint glass or a lime wedge stuffed into the bottle neck. In our case, we twisted the lime, orange, and lemon concept and instead used grapefruit peels to make an IPA. The end result is what you’d expect from an IPA but with noticeable hints of ruby grapefruit in the aroma and flavor of the beer. These attributes are accentuated by Citra, a trendy new hop with distinct citrus characteristics. Th

Oh Yeah!

7.0% ABV | 77.0 IBU

IPA - American

Oh Yeah! Is the personification of Macho Man Randy Savage in beer form. Big, bold, and brash! This IPA is old school meets new school. Simple malt bill with a complex hop expression. “(This beer) is the tower of power, too sweet to be sour. I’m funky like a monkey. Sky’s the limit and space is the place.Too hot to handle, too cold to hold!”

Mai Tai Brown

9.5% ABV | 30.0 IBU

Brown Ale - Imperial / Double

Inspired cocktail beer. Kill Devil Brown Ale’s flavor comes from the use of ingredients traditionally used by Caribbean distillers. The traditional distiller’s ingredients are supported by a complimentary, complex and rich variety of malts. As the beer conditions in Jamaican rum barrels, the vanilla and subtle oak flavors and aromas develop and integrate themselves with the Calypso hop’s soft tropical and stone fruit aromas. Additions of orange and pineapple added to the barrel at aging leave you with the ultimate Polynesian drinking experience. You can forget having to swing by Trader Vic’s for a Mai Tai and stop by Trader Widmer Bros instead!

5.4% ABV | 54.0 IBU

Pale Ale - American

Sometimes a beautifully brewed American Pale Ale just hits the spot. Bine-Tastic will scratch that itch and then some! With a lighter body and assertive hop presence this pale ale is a great go to for amazing flavor without being overly heavy. Dry hopping contributes to pine and citrus notes while a crisp bitterness lends itself to a refreshing finish. An awesome beer for just about anytime, you can’t go wrong with this one! Cheers.

6.7% ABV | 60.0 IBU

IPA - American

Made with real pineapple and teased with hops that have pineapple and tropical characters. Mosaic, Citra and Topaz crank up the pineapple volume to lull you away to your island getaway. -Widmer menu

Brrr Seasonal Ale

7.2% ABV | 50.0 IBU

Winter Ale

7 Pears

3.8% ABV | 5.0 IBU

Sour - Berliner Weisse

Dark Perspective

5.0% ABV | 35.0 IBU

What you have here is a traditional Schwarzbier. A recipe from brewer Dan Munch, this beer is well balanced and clean. Rich malt character from a generous addition of Munich malt provides a smooth base to support a light roasty character. Nearly black in color w/ tinges of red, this beer is surprisingly easy drinking. Full flavored without being overwhelming, Dark Perspective is perfectly balanced. Prost!

Russell Street IPA

6.3% ABV | 70.0 IBU

IPA - American

Russell Street IPA is the epitome of a West Coast IPA: intense hop flavor and sessionability balanced with a noticeable body. Named for the street that Widmer Brothers calls home, Russell Street IPA is powered by Mosaic, Citra, and Azacca hops for a pronounced citrus and tropical profile.

This And That

8.2% ABV | 70.0 IBU

Winter Warmer

This winter warmer is comprised of many different malts we had on our shelf. We also used some classic “C” hop varieties including Chinook and Cascade. The malt and hop varieties, along with brown sugar are combined to create a throw-back Winter Warmer, paying homage to the beers brewed in this bold style. Willamete and Simcoe hops were added to the fermenter to create a bright and floral nose, complimenting the warming and full bodied structure of the beer. This is one to enjoy and keep you warm as the skies turn grey, the nights come early and the air turns frigid. A liquid blanket of sorts…
